What voice?

Well this morning I woke up with a voice that was essentially non-existent. If I tried to speak at all, the only thing audible was random squeaks of the words I was trying to produce. Somehow, however, I could whisper just fine. Even so, a whisper is tough to use all day in college classroom discussions.

Luckily my professors were understanding and I tried to rest my poor vocal chords as much as possible to regain any speaking ability that I potentially had. As the day wore on, I got pretty good speaking back, though there were still several squeaks and hard to understand words that I produced.

As the night wears on though, my voice is again diminishing and I am not sure what prospects I have for my potential teaching tomorrow. I guess I will just have to wake up and see what the day brings.

Speaking is something that I definitely took for granted on a daily basis. Today I really realized, not only how much I do talk during the day, but also how essential it is for my daily communication with students, friends, family, teachers, and other people I interact with during the day. Not being able to use that verbal communication today was a challenge but also makes me very empathetic for those who cannot talk, either because they are deaf, mute, or do not speak my language, because that is a huge highway of communication closed down completely.
